Then the fun of building and creating began. Hearing my students say, \"Look what I made. I did it! and This is the best day ever!\" would make your heart burst with pride. Working in pairs, my students have been so engaged they don't want our center time to end when the timer rings. The STEM kits and manipulatives have provided valuable learning lessons that have strengthen the development of their ability to solve real-world problems and stretch their creativity, but equally as important: they are FUN! They also strengthened turn taking, language skills, and positive peer relationships These lessons will stay with my students for a lifetime. The Three Billy Goats Gruff STEM kit provided an unforgettable experience for my students. I can't begin to describe the fun we had designing and building bridges for the three Billy Goats to cross to get to the other side of the river. The troll was no match for my students. Ten frames are something in the hands of our students in multiple grade levels on a daily basis. The foam counters that come with our manipulative kits do the job when they are new, but quickly wear out from normal wear and tear. We usually use laminated paper frames to display the counters. These too hold up well short term, but after repeated uses, usually need to be replaced. Our new plastic ten frames are AMAZING! They are so much more durable then what we had previously. They can be washed to minimize germ exposure which is a huge added bonus. I am also loving the plastic case they come in. They are perfect for storing the ten frames and counters, and have already proven to hold up to daily use by elementary students. \r\n\r\nWe have used our ten frames and counters for showing visual models of numbers, practicing counting with 1:1 correspondence, and other counting collection activities. When we start our multiplication unit, I want to teach students how they can stack counters to represent \"groups of.\" Thank you for choosing Arcadia! Since then we have set up a library day rotation for students to help manage the high demand for the space. It sounds like a small thing but the ease of storage, utilization and their design has made the LEGOs that we have much more accessible and available for a variety of lessons. Not only have we used them for recreational times like recess, but they are easily used for day-to-day lessons as well. \r\nSome examples of the students projects are buildings houses to model the affects of erosion on communities, creating growing patterns in math and modeling fractions. No longer is incorporating LEGO into our lessons a time consuming ordeal. These storage boxes allow for quick and easy distribution and clean-up. \r\nBecause of you all LEGO materials will allow for easier hands on learning not just for the current group of students, but future classes as well.
