Many students' parents reached out to me as well and said how appreciative they were because they knew their child needed a new jacket and they just hadn't been able to get one yet. \r\nThis Winter season was very cold and we had several days of inclement weather, so it was so nice to have thicker, fleece jackets to wear in the snow. Before you donated the small group shelf from Lakeshore, my small group table area was always a chaotic mess. I am a very organized person, mentally, but my physically surroundings are often less so. Now, I have ample storage space behind my table to store my manuals for Math, Literacy, & Science (which take up a LOT of space) and materials for small groups. This helps keep these materials within arms reach so that when it is time to transition from one group to the next, I can quickly switch materials to meet the needs of whichever students are at my table. Since these instructional books arrived at our door, we have been spending a little time every day learning how to tie our shoes. I taught each student one-on-one how to tie their shoes (the standard way) and some learned within a few tries and some took a couple of days. Each day, we get our books out and practice for fluency with this new skill and we are getting so good! We even got to share our skills with our therapy dog today! Out of 19 students, 17 can successfully tie their shoes. Only 3 knew how to tie their shoes when we began, but all three tied them the simpler way with the two loops. I know this project may seem so simple, but it is anything but BASIC! My students and I have been able to do so much more because of these gift cards because any time I observe a student struggling, I am able to quickly go to the website and find just the perfect resource to meet the child's needs. In my Kindergarten classroom of 20 students, I have students who are still working on recognizing their letters, students who can read fluently and students everywhere in between. I have students who are working on identifying numbers to 10 and counting to 20 and students that can fluently add and subtract numbers in excess of 10. This makes it very difficult to make sure each child is getting exactly what he or she needs when we just have one standard workbook for math and small workbook for phonics. These materials have been so essential to me as I work with students in small groups and with my class as a whole, because I can also print games that we can play together, vocabulary cards to reinforce new words we've learned and so much more.
