When I first began thinking about this project, I realized just how incredibly talented my students are as artists. I wanted to find a way to place value on their creativity and make their artwork meaningful in a way that they would truly appreciate and remember.\r\n\r\nAs educators, we know that students often respond positively to extrinsic rewards. It is amazing to see the effort and excitement that can be inspired by something as simple as a sticker or a small prize. With that in mind, I began researching ways to transform my students' artwork into rewards that would celebrate their talents. I had seen teachers use labels and printed decorations throughout their classrooms, which sparked an idea of my own.\r\n\r\nBy using a thermal printer purchased through the generous support of DonorsChoose, I was able to bring my students' artistic creations to life in a tangible and exciting way. Students were eager to showcase their artwork and worked hard to create designs that could be printed successfully. The excitement throughout the process was contagious, but the most rewarding moment was seeing the pure joy on their faces as they watched their original artwork become real stickers right before their eyes.\r\n\r\nThis project not only encouraged creativity and artistic expression, but it also helped students take pride in their work and recognize the value of their unique talents. The stickers became much more than rewards—they became symbols of accomplishment, confidence, and self-expression.\r\n\r\nThank you for allowing me to use the materials funded through DonorsChoose to bring this experience and joy to my students. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on our classroom, and we are forever grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1771643011746,"projectUrl":"project/think-it-draw-it-print-it-publish/10106993/","projectTitle":"Think It, Draw It, Print It, Publish!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Busque","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5444456_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1534079321458","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-busque"},{"teacherId":9434281,"projectId":10103733,"letterContent":"I was so excited about this project, and your generous support completely transformed our 5th grade classroom into a hands on science and art studio! Our students dove into an awesome, multidisciplinary challenge where they built detailed 3D ecosystem models of their favorite native Hawaiian animals, while also designing and testing their own working water filtration systems. This project hit home by teaching them about clean water scarcity and local environmental conservation. The art supplies let them bring their models to life with incredible detail, and the iPad was a total game changer for our daily routine. The kids used it like a real scientific tool to take high resolution photos of their engineering tweaks, record video reflections of their findings, and do the digital research they needed to back up their data.\r\n\r\nAll of that hard work and research went toward making Water Conservation Posters that we actually submitted to the local Board of Water Supply, giving these kids an amazing public platform to be real community advocates for the environment. To tie it all together, the Scholastic News magazines totally revamped our daily literacy blocks. The students absolutely loved the articles because they were engaging, relevant, and let them see themselves reflected in global current events. It perfectly bridged the gap between our classroom experiments and the rest of the world. Your investment did so much more than just buy supplies; it told these young scientists that their voices mattered, gave them professional grade tools to show off their hard work, and inspired them to protect our beautiful planet!","fullyFundedDate":1771633707374,"projectUrl":"project/real-world-research-to-life/10103733/","projectTitle":"Real-World Research to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ujimori","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9434281"},{"teacherId":4810015,"projectId":10108299,"letterContent":"The new resources have completely transformed our read and make club. My students are utilizing these materials every single day to create, personalize, and take ownership of their own learning. A standout moment occurred last week after reading a story called \"The Reflection in Me\" by Marc Colagiovanni. Equipped with the new art materials, the students worked hard to create a portrait of themselves reading their favorite book! Watching them eagerly look at themselves in a mirror and stay focused on drawing every detail in their faces was such a feeling! The room was never so quiet! Then as they decided on what book they wanted to select as their favorite was an aha moment as I watched them decide how they would draw the cover of the book on their artwork. The resources didn't just give them tools; they gave them the freedom to think and create!\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived and we unboxed the materials together, the classroom was buzzing with pure excitement. The students' faces completely lit up, and there were audible gasps and cheers as they saw what was inside. They were incredibly touched to learn that a group of generous donors—complete strangers to them—cared enough about their education to send these beautiful, brand-new materials. This initial burst of joy quickly shifted into a deep sense of pride and responsibility. They immediately established \"classroom rules\" for taking care of the new items, treating them like the valuable treasures they are.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to scale up our current program to include students in grades 3 and 4. Now that the students have been able to practice using these foundational skills using these resources, they will be able to better navigate situations that involve cutting and pasting with ease. I also hope that students will be inspired to create their own works of art after reading books of their choice at home. With the addition of a button/keychain maker for our club, I am looking into ways that we can incorporate an opportunity for students to create their own button/keychain at the end of each session based on a book that they have read on their own. This opportunity will empower student choice, voice, and help spark creativity. \r\n\r\nYour incredible support has laid the groundwork for continuing our after school club at our school for next school year and also provides an opportunity for us to include additional grade levels to participate in this club. Students were eager to help organize materials into the rolling Kingracks and were especially excited to try the erasable fineliner pens and metallic Sharpies. Many students commented on how \"professional\" the materials felt, and they quickly began using the erasable pens to sketch ideas more confidently without worrying about making mistakes. The metallic Sharpies became an instant favorite, adding bright details and glowing accents to student artwork.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has been during our clay projects. The new drying rack has provided a safe and organized place for students' clay sculptures to dry without being damaged. Students take great pride in carefully placing their artwork on the rack and checking on their creations each class period. The rolling carts have also transformed the flow of the classroom by making supplies easier to access and helping students become more independent in gathering and returning materials. This has allowed us to spend more time creating and less time managing supplies.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, students will use these resources in upcoming mixed-media, sculpture, and glow-art projects that will be featured in our annual art showcase. The new materials are helping students think more creatively, take artistic risks, and feel proud of the work they create.
