Where Little Readers Grow Big Dreams

Help me give my students a comfortable, organized, and inviting reading center with flexible seating and engaging literacy materials where kindergarten learners can build confidence, develop a love of reading, and enjoy a cozy space designed for learning.

My Project

One of the greatest joys of teaching kindergarten is watching my students grow into readers. Many of my students come from low-income families and may not always have access to books, comfortable reading spaces, or literacy materials at home.

I want to create a cozy and inviting reading center where my students can truly fall in love with reading.

The addition of bookshelves and book baskets will help create an organized library where students can easily find books they are interested in and independently return them to the correct place. Having books displayed neatly and within reach encourages students to explore reading more often and helps build responsibility and confidence in our classroom routines.

The decodable books will have a direct impact on my students’ reading success. These books will give them the opportunity to immediately practice the exact skills they are learning during reading groups. Repeated practice with decodable texts helps students build fluency, confidence, and independence as readers. Many of my students need extra support to master foundational reading skills, and these books will provide meaningful practice that matches their instructional level.

The rug and fireplace will help transform our reading center into comfortable space where students genuinely want to spend. I want my students to associate reading with comfort, happiness, and success. For some children, our classroom may be the coziest and most peaceful place they experience during the day, and I want them to feel proud and excited every time they enter our reading corner.

This project is so much more than furniture and books. It is about building confidence, and helping children develop a lifelong love of reading. By providing an organized, comfortable, and literacy-rich environment, my students will gain the tools they need to become successful readers both inside and outside of the classroom.
