These tools and materials have made an incredible difference for my kindergarteners. The focus of this project was to provide more resources for social-emotional learning in our classroom, and they have truly helped my students better understand and regulate their emotions.\r\n\r\nWhen I revealed the new tools, the students were so excited to explore them. I first explained how to use each tool, and then everyone had a chance to try them out. Afterwards, we added them to our calming corner, where they continue to use them daily to help manage their feelings in healthy ways.\r\n\r\nI believe that learning to recognize and regulate emotions is just as important as academics in kindergarten. Many of my students start the year unsure of what to do when they experience big feelings. Through these new tools and lessons, they are learning that it's okay to have emotions, and more importantly, what to do next. I am so proud of the growth they've shown and how much they've learned about managing their emotions!","fullyFundedDate":1757683044477,"projectUrl":"project/little-hearts-big-feelings-sel-for-kin/9458742/","projectTitle":"Little Hearts, Big Feelings: SEL for Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dixon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9161269_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692138121813","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9161269"},{"teacherId":496495,"projectId":9198250,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom through the donation of these supplies. Craft supplies in the art room make it possible for me to look at work with students and say, \"What if?\" What if we added buttons? What if it was shiny? How could we add more details? Having a collection of materials for students ensures projects are as unique and diverse as the students in my classroom. Recently, the third and fourth grade students used craft materials and recycled materials to make cameras. They added memories and dreams as snapshots coming from the camera. They loved digging through the craft materials and finding creative ways to use the provided materials. I know the enthusiasm around this project helped students get excited for the first few class sessions. Without tools like clay, students are not exposed to artmaking techniques that span beyond paper and basic tools. Many students thrive when offered a more hands-on and tactile medium like clay. They get to be a little bit messy, get their hands dirty and let their creative juices flow freely as they work on 3-D sculpture and pottery projects. They enjoyed the pop-its and use them to help them focus. The notebooks and pens have been very helpful for the students to use to express their feelings. The weighted monkey has been a great addition to our classroom calm spot. Some of the students are still struggling with the consequences of the storm and someone uses the weighted monkey each day. We just finished reading, Me...Jane and the star student of the day would get to hold the weighted monkey as we were reading and discussing the book. \r\nThe students have kept their mini plush animal on their desk as a reminder that people all over the country cared about them during a very difficult time in their lives. \r\nThank you so much for caring about my students. The first week, students painted expressively. We played music and painted exactly how we felt using lines, shapes and colors connecting with our moods. This felt therapeudic as we all readjusted to being back at school. It was fun to have the kids choose one word to describe what they had painted and share that word as we looked at their paintings. The second week, we added collage items. We talked a lot about debris. There was so much debris on the sides of roads around our neighborhoods, and it was like seeing people's lives in piles. We made connections between rebuilding and repairing as we build and pieced our collage items onto our paintings. The third and final layer was an outer layer to represent our outer selves. We talked about how we have layers to our feelings and personalities just like our artwork depicts layers of our experiences this year. I had their work on display for the school community to see, and we exhibited it with our district's mission: Together We Rise. I am now distributing smaller numbers of the projects to places in our community that want to display artwork from the hurricane. I hope this helps show how resilient our students are, and I hope they remember this project as something special they did with friends as things got back to \"normal\". Thank you so much for making this possible for some great kids.","fullyFundedDate":1729566515018,"projectUrl":"project/healing-after-helene/8890678/","projectTitle":"Healing After Helene","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ammons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp496495_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689023725834","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bethammons"},{"teacherId":496495,"projectId":8519518,"letterContent":"Monday we will return to school after a much-needed winter break. It has been a memorable school year because of Hurricane Helene, but I feel like we are back on track. I wanted to take a minute to share with you the impact your generous donation has made in my classroom. My students love art, and they tell me regularly how excited they are to come to class. We have been painting, drawing, sculpting and collaging colorful masterpieces that tie in with classroom learning. One example is second grade classes, who learn about changing seasons in their classrooms. When their teacher was having them experiment and write about why leaves change color, in art class we sculpted paper bag fall trees and did texture rubbings of leaves as a background for fun bear drawings. This was especially fun because it connected with their personal bear sightings around the region and encouraged some fun stories from kids who had seen bears first-hand this fall. Thank you for making lessons like these possible through the donation of basic art materials that are essential for our program. You truly made a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1729265008240,"projectUrl":"project/smart-start-in-art/8519518/","projectTitle":"Smart Start in Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ammons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp496495_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689023725834","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bethammons"},{"teacherId":9808687,"projectId":8890274,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my students as they returned to school after Hurricane Helene! They also enjoyed adding stickers to the journals. The calming stickers were among their favorites.
