We need financial support to pay for student leadership and work development for the launch of a student landscaping program at JMHS, which will benefit our local community.
Julio, Luis and Josh are rising 10th and 11th grade business students at JM High School of Civic & Business Leadership, who have volunteered to spearhead and help pilot a student landscaping business at our school for our surrounding community residents.
To effectively pilot the program, the three students have been training with a local organization, Cleveland Youth Landscaping (CYL) to learn the ins and outs of landscaping. They have sacrificed their summer break mornings to train from 7:30am to 12pm every day, traveling from the west to the east side of Cleveland.
All three students are energetic, hard working and full of personality. Each one brings their own touch: Luis is very detail oriented and observant; Josh is very sociable and outgoing and Julio is quite the jokester and a ball of energy. Overall, they are great kids from different walks of life who are ready and willing to learn!
In partnership with the JM High School of Civic and Business Leadership and Bellaire Puritas Development Corp, Cleveland Youth Landscaping (CYL) will hire three part-time youth landscapers and one part-time adult supervisor from the school to participate in an educational summer program alongside program participants at three different Cleveland locations. The primary goal of this program is to train the 3 student pilot participants in the CYL model, develop their personal and leadership skills as landscapers, employees and entrepreneurs, as well as to prepare them to launch their own version of the program in the same community as their high school, in the spring of 2017.
In Their Own Words
The goal that we are trying to achieve is to raise enough money to pay for leadership training and work development so that we can take the lead of the landscaping project that we are looking to bring to the west side of Cleveland next school year. It is a great way to give back by helping those in need, by cleaning up and keeping the community organized and unpolluted. It also teaches teens how to have good work ethic.

I will make the most of this leadership opportunity by motivating my fellow team mates to work better as a team and by contributing my social skills and outgoing personality to effectively interact with not only my peers but also with the members of our community. I am excited to not only offer the skills that I have but to grow them as well.
-Luis
This project is important to our community because it is good for us to get out and get involved with the community around us. It is also good for people who really need the help and are unable to do the work. This opportunity is important to me because it will help to keep us busy and out of trouble in the streets.
