Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is the first year I have had 24 students in my first grade general education classroom. In previous years I have always had around 15 students, so it has definitely been a challenge for me this year to keep them engaged and focused throughout the day. The good thing is that my students are always very eager to learn!

One of their favorite parts of the day is when they get to participate in literacy centers!

My students love this part of the day because they feel like they take ownership and responsibility over their own learning. Centers are also one of my favorite parts of the day because it's my chance to teach at each student's independent reading level.

I will be using these materials so I can continue making my centers more engaging. I have several students that have surpassed 1st grade reading standards, so they are also craving higher level activities and books to read independently during this time of the day. As we come closer to the end of 1st grade, my students are becoming more independent and are ready for activities that will challenge their minds during centers.
