Toys Are Children's Words and PLAY is Their Language!

Help me give my students a play therapy room. More students are being referred for additional SEL support. Play therapy provides a means whereby students can express themselves in a meaningful way.

This project expired on May 18, 2022.

My Students

My students are motivated young learners who do not let their disability define them. The students I work with are Blind, Deaf/Blind or Deaf. Since Covid, I have seen an increase in the number of students I am seeing whose mental health has been negatively impacted.

Students with low vision or hearing loss have unique social and emotional needs that must be addressed in education programs to ensure successful academic and social competence.

My Project

Play therapy helps children learn more helpful behaviors, understand their emotions, and gain insight about resolving inner conflicts. They also learn self-control, self-respect, problem solving, communication skills and the ability to express their feelings.

Play is the child's language when they don't have the language to express their needs.

Play relieves feelings of stress and boredom, stimulates creative thinking and exploration and regulates emotion.

More referrals are being made for additional SEL support at school while identifying several areas of delays in communicating students wants/needs. All accommodations students receive are through their IEPs
