My Project

In middle school, confidence plays a critical role in how students show up each day. At this age, students are becoming more aware of themselves and others, and something as simple as not having access to basic hygiene items can impact their focus, participation, and sense of belonging.

Many of my students do not always have consistent access to everyday essentials such as deodorant, toothbrushes, hair care items, skincare supplies, or clean personal care products.

These unmet needs can create barriers to learning that often go unseen, affecting students’ ability to fully engage in class.

To support my students, I am creating a classroom care station stocked with essential hygiene supplies. Students will be able to access items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, wipes, lip balm, skincare products, and personal care tools in a discreet and respectful way.

In addition, each student will build their own personal care kit using a canvas pouch that they can decorate and personalize. By incorporating art materials, students will design their own pouches, creating a sense of ownership and pride. This transforms the experience from simply receiving supplies into something that feels personal, empowering, and respectful.

This project also includes reusable heat packs to support students experiencing menstrual discomfort, helping them remain comfortable and focused in class.

All materials will be organized using storage systems that allow students to access what they need privately and independently, without drawing attention or feeling uncomfortable.

This project supports the whole child. When students feel confident, comfortable, and cared for, they are more likely to participate, collaborate, and take academic risks.
