Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students live in low-income housing and they attend a Title I school. They are beginning first grade and have various disabilities. They are underprivileged scholars who need equitable access to their education, whether at home or in school. My students work hard and they are eager to learn. They need some basics.

During the pandemic, a lot of families suffered and continue to suffer financially.

We want to remove any barriers that will stand in the way of our scholars' education. We want to keep our scholars warm as we continue to navigate uncharted times. Our kids are so excited to come to school but they need some basic resources at home to help them be successful at school.

We all have basic needs that must be met: staying warm with some gloves, hats, and scarves! Today we started talking about what they need and all of them told us that they do not have scarves, hats, or gloves for the winter. Although it brings tears to my eyes and makes me sad, I also know that this community is amazing and will come through for them. We really need their basic needs to be met so that they can come to school every day and not be cold.

Help me remove a simple barrier: gloves, scarves, and hats! It's so hard to get to school when you are cold! Let's help our students get there every day and be warm! Let's reduce the number of absentees by providing them with some basics!
