We ran out of tissues and it was hard for my students when they had to keep running to the bathroom. Paper towels are also vital in any classroom but especially a first grade one. Without paper towels, it is impossible to clean up well. Sometimes we have spills or simply need to clean off our desk. Lysol wipes help wipe up any germs and in a first grade classroom you can imagine how important they are. Running out of lysol wipes is a cause for a germy disaster. Each and every year, I provide my students with the Summer Bridge books. I find that to keep students from battling the summer slide, these books enable the students to continue practicing reading, writing, and math. My students do not come from print rich environments or socio economic backgrounds that offer them the opportunities to experience the world in the same way as other kids. As a teacher, I do my best to take them on trips, send books home, and make sure they are being intectually stimulated at home. I want my kids to have the real experience of planting and that includes getting to wear the gloves, work with soil, and use gardening tools. My kids have been learning all about worms and compost. This project enabled them to dig in the garden with the tools and use the gloves to find worms. We were also running low on glue sticks. When you teach young children, glue sticks are important as we incorporate cutting activities to develop the fine motor skills in their fingers. Finally, we stop and jot a lot using post-its during reading. We also use them during writing to capture important information. These basic resources were so plentiful at the start of the school year. However. as time goes on and we use them each and every day, things run low fast.
