My students are similar in that they are all in elementary school and come from low-income homes. They also all have a disability or significant delay in their speech and/or language development. However, they are each unique in their skill sets, interests, and strengths. My job, as their teacher of speech improvement, is to ensure that each one learns strategies to help them communicate and learn to the best of their abilities.
Having a disability and limited resources can limit a child's ability to progress, learn, and succeed; however, the generosity of those more fortunate can make all the difference in the lives of my students.
Due to the range of my students' disabilities, it becomes necessary to obtain various types of resources that can best aid them in their speech and language skill-building. These resources, while necessary, can be pricey and unaffordable to children whose families have limited resources. I am therefore reaching out to those who are committed to the future and understand the significance of supporting those in need.
The majority of my students come from homes with limited financial security and flexibility. While many work hard, their efforts are sufficient for paying the bills leaving very little remaining for extras, such as snacks.
Children learn best when feeling encouraged, cherished, and well fed.
Snacks provide that little extra that says; "you're doing a great job, keep it up!"
While a little treat may not seem like a big deal, to children whose parents can't always afford them, they can elicit great results and responses. Allowing me to encourage my students will help ensure their success!
