Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is an exciting time. Many are coming to school for the very first time. At the beginning of the year, we are learning our ABCs and 123s. By the end of the year, we are reading, writing, and subtracting. There is so much growth in one year.
My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of curiosity!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, and engaging projects. They come to school each day ready to try new things. They are the sweetest bunch around! Truly, they are my inspiration!
My Project
During the second half of the year in kindergarten we are learning to read and write cvc words like tab or rat.
These materials will enhance our small group reading time.
Silent Slug - When the slug light is on, it is a signal to not interrupt the small group unless it is an emergency. It is a visual way for students to remember to problem solve or ask a classmate for help.
Sounds Mats, CVC Picture Cards, & Magnetic Chips - During small group students will be shown a picture card. They would then put a magnetic chip down for each sound on the sound mat. Then the students will blend the sounds together as they use a magnetic wand to pick up the chips and say the word at the same time.
Storage Center - Students have their crayons in individual boxes. They at time lose some of their crayons. The storage center will have the crayons organized by color so when they lose a crayon they can replace it. Or If we do not know who the crayon belongs to we can put in the organizer.
Playdoh - We will use the play doh to build sight words and smash subtraction problems.
