Seeing My Community Through Someone Else's Eyes

Help me give my students the opportunity to create a visual journey of the fifth grade experience. To use the tablets to create a visual montage of all we encounter.

My Students

My students are primarily minorities. All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. They have chosen to attend our academy because it is small and designed to help students to acquire missed skills and move to grade level mastery.

My students need to see the world as other people see it, to look beyond just their point of view.

My students will take these tablets with them as they visit historical places, performing arts centers, museums and many other places .

My students are inquisitive and interested in how other people live, laugh and love. They seek to see all the possibilities life has to offer. Although most of my students live below the poverty their ambition is to rise up and reach back to help some one else.

My Project

As students move through life at light speed they often miss the beauty of the moment. This project is designed for my students to STOP! And experience the moment in all its glory. The students will take the tablets out into the world and snap pictures and create videos of their experiences.

A picture or video is worth a thousand words and the tablets will allow my students to relive the moment not only through their eyes, but also understand how different students see the same thing differently.

This year long project will allow the class to understand each other’s difference a little better. This project will help my students understand how valuable another person’s perspective is.

After the visuals have been edited the students will premiere night, red carpet included. The audience will be filled with proud parents and friends. Next, a round table discussion will be held to examine what the students learned and how to apply what they have learned to other aspects of life.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
