This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a physical education teacher at a Pennsylvania public K-8 school. This is a title one school. I am trying to bring baseball to my students who live in the inner-city. I would love to teach my students how to play the great game of baseball in an organized middle school league, but I need the right equipment.

The school is located in a low economic neighborhood with 95 % low income and about 95 % of students get free or reduced lunch.

This school was built in 2007 to ease overcrowding at another neighborhood school in Pennsylvania. The school was supposed to open up with 800 students. The school now has over 1,000 students. The school opened in September 2007 short of teachers and materials. It opened up with just one class in the gym, now in April 2010 there are two. That means we see 400 students a day. That is why we need more gym and team sport equipment to keep students active.

My Project

The resources I am asking for are: one baseball helmet caddy that will keep our helmets safe and neatly hung up on the fence and off the ground. 5 dozen practice baseballs that will be used for teaching students how to throw , catch and field the ball as well as how to hit the ball with a bat. i am also asking for 4 dozen game day baseballs because our team is responsible for bringing at least 4 new game balls for every home game.

Athletics is not getting funded like it should. Baseball is a great game that is losing a lot of good athletes to other sports because equipment is cheaper and kids are not having as many opportunities to play on leagues. I am here to give kids this opportunity. That is why I need your help to get these baseballs. I take my job as a Physical Educator and coach serious. I cannot do it alone. Thank you
