Round Robin with Curriculum

My students need office supplies and a timer to host meetings with parents to help parents learn about the curriculum and experience what their students are learning.

This project expired on May 6, 2017.

My Students

My students are beautiful and brilliant. Our class consists of multi-level learners. Our school is a high-poverty, Title I school, meaning that 100% of our students receive free or reduced-priced lunch. Our school is located in a high poverty neighborhood. My students work very hard every day. Our class has a 98% attendance rate, which means the students rarely miss school. We value our learning time.

My students come from multi-ethnic backgrounds, each with distinctive cultural traditions.

In our classroom, we blend our traditions to form strong community ties.

My Project

The students and staff at my school need paper, pencils, pens, timer, dry-erase markers, and a cart to host a weekly morning meeting that focuses on increasing parent involvement by introducing them to standards and concepts in our curriculum. Parents will be invited to arrive thirty minutes before the beginning of school to enjoy breakfast and learn more about our curriculum. Each staff member will be responsible for planning a brief activity or presentation during the school year. Teachers will present activities and warm-ups that students are completing in the classroom, and ask parents to complete the provided activity. Teachers will relate the activity to the state standard and explain what students learn from the exercise. Support staff will discuss interventions they use with students to help them focus and be successful, and the office staff will address issues that our challenging our student body. We will track parent attendance and correlate this with absences, office referrals, and grades.

Parental involvement is a crucial element of student success.

Students with involved parents earn better grades, enroll in higher-level programs, pass their classes, attend school regularly, have better social skills, adapt well to school, and are more likely to graduate. Improved relationships among all stakeholders will have a direct on student performance.
