Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you love to sing? Do you love to read? WE DO!
My classroom is filled with multi-talented children. I have a great group of Kindergarten, first and second grade students with special needs.
We are very excited about learning and often find ourselves singing to learn new concepts. In my background as a Music Therapist (before teaching), I learned the powerful effects of music. It can take you away to other places, it can inspire new ideas, it can create pathways to health and it can offer more stability to our memory banks!
The author/illustrator/composer team of John Archambault and David Plummer is a dynamic pairing. I was fortunate to meet them both while attending a Kindergarten education conference. They have turned some of John's books into songs and other learning tools. One popular series would be "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "Chicka Chicka ABC" and "Boom Chicka Rock". These well-loved stories were written by John Archambault and have been set to music by David Plummer.
Pairing music, silliness and learning academic standards is a winning combination. You can't lose when you are singing, dancing and giggling along to the nutty tunes and colorful books that go with them. Music is the key that opens up the door for alphabet, counting, telling time, scientific information and social skills.
In two previously funded proposals, our class has been fortunate enough to collect some portions of this series. We would like to request more of the books and CDs, filled with motivating, toe-tapping educational songs that will help us become Rockin' Readers!
