My Project

Ringing handbells, while traditionally a church activity, has gained popularity in both private and public schools. Bringing handbells into my classroom, with your help, will give my students an introduction to playing a musical instrument while learning lessons about cooperation and how to read music. Students will not have to master the instrument to create its beauty, they hold the instrument and snap their wrist, the beauty is instantaneous as the wrist creates the sound and the arm sustains it.

Music has a profound effect on children's brains, and ringing handbells will help my students in visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning- that is, seeing, hearing and actively doing!

As my students experiment in playing with this musical instrument, many skills can be developed from it. Independent thinking will increase, as well as listening skills, attention span, physical coordination, self-discipline and personal expression. I'm excited to provide this opportunity for my students and watch as they gain positive social and emotional skills while developing a greater self-esteem. Isn't that amazing what a bell and a snap of the wrist can promote in a child!
