Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from predominantly low-income households. Many have grown up in Rosamond, CA, and have never ventured too far from the immediate vicinity. Due to the poverty in our community, all students in our district receive free lunch and breakfast. My students come from families that see education as a way to break out of poverty.
My students are great problem solvers and learn how to make do with less.
Most of my students want to go to college and become people who make something of themselves. They want to make their families proud, especially when they are the first in their family to go to college.
My Project
All students need a chance to recharge and reset themselves. In my class, I offer an area in my room where they are able to do so. They can grab a snack, a mint, bandaid or other small item that may help them reset themselves. I encourage students to use the recharge station to make sure they are full and focused during class, students who are hungry or in need of basic necessities are not effective learners. By giving students access to the basics in the recharge station, I ensure they are more ready and prepared to learn.
