Reading Literacy Tools to Help Fill in Lost Gaps

Help me give my students leveled literacy and literacy centers to help them succeed.

My Students

I teach kindergarten - fifth grade and are working on beginning reading skills. These kids are working on life skills and low level academics. These kids are amazing and are making so much progress. Many are becoming more articulate in expressing their wants and needs and are learning what reading is all about.

Many of the students lack life skills but are progressing, their desire to attend to higher functioning academics is increasing.

They also want to succeed in classes with their grade level peers on daily basis.

My Project

I am creating a leveled reading center for students in a low level reading class. We have made reading centers to help students learn their letters and sounds. We will also use these supplies to help each student learn to blend CVC words and then read them in context of the books provided in the class leveled library. We are building a core of students who with compassion help those who need help in reading. Peer buddies.

One of the greater features of our program is the peer tutor component that we have created.

We have access to higher grade level students who are invited to come into our class and read TO, WITH, and BY our students.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
