My Students

As a first grade teacher at a Title I school in rural Utah, I get the opportunity to work with a remarkable group of students. Though many of them come from disadvantaged homes, they are eager to learn new things and especially love working together while engaged in hands-on activities.

Not only are they amazing learners, I find that my students teach me something new every day!

They are active, inquisitive, hard working, and resilient. They come to school ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both socially and academically.

My Project

Providing students with appropriate decodable books as they learn and practice basic phonics skills is essential. Decodable books are designed to align with explicit, systematic phonics instruction. They are simple stories that are written with words that students have previously learned. Research shows the importance of using decodable readers to practice the necessary skills that lead to strong reading. Many of the students at my school struggle with reading and these books will help them progress.

My students will enjoy learning essential reading skills through a variety of decodable readers.
