Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is part of a very large, urban school district with a very diverse student population. Our school is a dual language Spanish Immersion magnet, in which all students in the school receive half of their instruction in English and half of their instruction in Spanish.
By the time they become sixth graders, nearly all of the students are bilingual.
Our school serves students in grades K-6 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.
Our school serves ESL and Special Education students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
My Project
Elementary and middle school years are a time of personal and life skill development. With bodies changing and social lives being built, it is essential for students to have a strong understanding of personal hygiene. They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.
Our students are hard working, active, very social, and in need of resources to assist with their personal hygiene!
In an effort to promote the overall health and wellness of my students, I am requesting essential and basic hygiene items. These resources will help them practice and develop good hygiene and grooming habits. The toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste will provide them with the resources needed to develop good oral hygiene habits. The deodorant/antiperspirant, shampoo and feminine products will help them maintain basic body care. The combs and brushes will help them attend to and learn the basics of personal grooming. The hand sanitizers and tissues will enable them to keep their faces and hands free of germs.
These resources are essential to building the self-esteem of children whose parents may not be able to afford these items. These items may also prevent my students from getting teased, picked on, or bullied because they lack the necessary resources for personal grooming and hygiene. We hope to utilize these resources to build understanding and help our students become more cognizant of their personal hygiene!
