Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
One day, we all went home thinking we might be out of school for a week, maybe two. Then, along with the rest of the children in the US, school was online for the rest of the year. We had tried to provide our students with what they would need for a short time.
Equity of materials for all students is a big hurdle.
We were not sure what supplies each child had at home and had access to. We relied greatly on technology, but it would be beneficial if every student had hands-on materials to work with as well.
My Project
In the classroom, we are able to control that all students have access to whatever tool they need to learn. We have the supplies we need to make hands-on learning happen. Manipulating objects is so important in Kindergarten.
When you have the right tools, you can complete the job.
My hope is that creating these at home tool kits for my kinders will allow them to be able to do hands-on work, and not just computer-based activities. They can be kept at home, but they can also be used if we go back to school, to ensure that everyone has their own supplies.
