My Students

My students are very special to me this year. In many ways they missed the traditional kindergarten experience due to COVID. Even though they are labeled first graders, the reality is that for many of them, this is their first time in school five days a week.

Most of my students are English learners, which I absolutely love.

I especially enjoy how the most important message I convey to them is not about academics at all, but rather how I make them feel. If only they learned every phrase as quickly as "I love you"!

My Project

These books won't have to say "Pick me!" for long because my beginning readers are so excited to get their hands on some real books! Due to COVID they have spent a lot of time looking at books on screens or listening to me read to them.

They deserve real books in their hands to experience the joy of reading.

Having a variety of books to chose from allows students to find the right book to practice reading. This project features both non-fiction and fiction books so students can enjoy both real and make-believe texts. These books are mostly for beginning readers because these level books see the most use so our current classroom library is very limited in this selection.
