Pete The Cat Pizza Party At Home!

Help me give my students Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party and Pete figurines to retell stories.

My Students

Students entering the Young 5s program should be 5 by September 30th. Most students entering the Young 5s program are between 4 years, 11 months, and 5 years, 5 months at the start of the school year. I have two groups of students with 10 students in each group. My students attend school all day, every other day on an all-year alternating calendar schedule.

The students in the Young 5s program are chronologically ready to enter the school setting, but may not be developmentally ready to endure the rigors of the kindergarten curriculum.

The Young 5s program allows these students a year to develop the foundational skills needed in language arts to enter kindergarten the following school year.

This project will reach beyond my Young Fives students to benefit students in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. We have 4 K classrooms, 4 1st grade classrooms, and 3-second grade classrooms.

My Project

Children need books and need access to books. Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party by James Dean is a fun book for children to read. Who doesn't love pizza and making it with Pete the Cat will be exciting to read at home. The kids will have some figurines to help retell some of the awesome Pete stories we have read and already have at home.

This project will give each of my students the essential need of a book they can keep, to call their own, because books are sometimes luxury items families cannot afford.

Funds are tight at home with families, making it is nearly impossible for families to purchase books at home. Places where books can be borrowed are closing or have restricted hours when adults are at work. Many families do not have access to the technology they need to read books online and let's face it, reading a digital book is a whole different experience. Holding a book in your hands, turning the pages to learn the mechanics of reading is an essential need.

With this project, I would give my students these books to keep at home. They need these books to learn how to hold a book, manipulate the pages, learn the correlation and differences between text and pictures, and learn how pictures give a visual representation of the printed text. Children need adults to model reading. Parents are their child's first and best teacher.

Please consider making a donation, big or small, to get these books to kids.
