My Students

Our school is tragically underfunded, and many students come from severe poverty or other home situations that leave them poorly prepared for class. I have the privilege of teaching our IB students college level math, and they come every day with the hope for and confidence in a college acceptance letter upon graduation. I also teach our pre-calc class, which contains many students who, despite having struggled in the past, come with a different confidence that they will be better educated than the day before. These students show respect and enthusiasm that gives me hope in our future.

My Project

My students need binders to organize their notes, otherwise they're left with handfuls of sheets of paper that get lost or destroyed over the course of the semester. These binders will make studying much easier and allow them to know what work they are missing if absent.

Our school cannot afford basics like these, but they are essential to our student's success.

Doing activities over a period of two days, keeping track of notes, and generally feeling like they have classwork under control does so much to help kids feel like school offers them something important, and as a community, we can do better.
