My markers work very inconsistently, and when they do I leave smudge marks that obscure future points. I use my hands or paper towels when available, but the whiteboard looks like a Picasso. Additionally, my students lose their notes all too often, leaving them unable to access them during assignments or study for exams. For example, my mid-unit exams are open note. The students who succeed are always the ones who can afford binders or notebooks, while the others rely solely on memory and the two sheets of loose notebook paper in their backpack. This is inequity in action, and I can't stand to see it in my classroom.
