All of the materials allowed my students to get back in touch with their creative student to design Interactive Notebook covers that reflect who they are and what they strive to become in the future! Not only are were we able to design notebook covers but the content is also very reflective of student choice and uniqueness. \r\nAt first students believe it is another arduous task, but once they see the possibility, they get so engaged and it is difficult to get them to move beyond the excitement of what they are capable of creating. \r\nThese notebooks do not only serve as a visual representation of the students, but they become their portfolio. And I had the start to the filing system I need to help them stay organized. I taught with a lot of paper this term, to make sure I received from students what they thought, and not what Google or AI thought! I use AI to take short-cuts for things I know how to do, and it saves me a lot of time. But students do not yet know enough--for what we are doing--to take such short cuts. I'm transitioning to teaching history as much as possible through a literacy-based model, and that means lots of reading and writing--as well as speaking and listening. That's how I started my career, before technology made it too easy to cut corners. \r\n I'm nearing the end of my career (my first class was teaching summer school English in 1984!) and I am getting back to my roots more and more. Students had a great time getting to create their own brains, and the kinesthetic aspect was helpful for many students to be able to understand the different parts of the brain. It was a great way to get ALL students engaged, interested, and bought-into the assignment, which was to take their model brain and explain its parts and functions to adults on the school campus.
