New Music for a Community-Wide, Multi-Generational Event

Help me give my students a new collection of new choral music to share as a community-wide multi-generational singing effort!

My Project

My students create a family at our school. We are a performing arts family - bands, choirs, strings, theatre, and dance - that support each other on the stage, in the classroom and beyond. We are a NJ high school, just outside NYC, servicing a multicultural population of students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. We strongly believe that the arts can instill positive change, transform, inspire, and change lives. The music program is a powerful unifier in our school. We are going to build this program over a strong foundation and proud history and generations of art students. My students are very diverse. Finding rich content and repertoire is key to reaching each child. In our choir class we are always looking for diverse music to explore.

This project will provide voices, repertoire, literature, characters, and authors for students to share for a community-wide, multi-generational night of singing.

Our choral program provides a wonderful community service throughout our city each year. This winter, we are trying a new event where we are bringing in younger singers from our 7th/8th grade, school faculty, a community multi-generational choir, and some past choir directors from RHS. It will be a grand night where our community sings. This new choir music will provide some new voices for our students to explore including a wonderful arrangement from the recent "Barbie" movie written by one of the arrangers for Pentatonix, Rob Dietz.

I love providing wonderful repertoire, challenging topics, and engaging activities in which to learn and grow.
