It is a colorful, vibrant classroom filled with great musicmaking all day long. These classes largerly serve a different population of student than our performing ensembles, expanding our reach into our school community. We learn all different styles of music. We explore music and its effect upon history and culture. We learn how to play piano through developing music literacy (reading notation) but also by listening, and watching through an overhead camera on our teaching station. Students learn how to record and produce music using a Digital Audio Workstation, and advanced students graduate into using an industry standard, Logic. We just expanded our note vocabulary as we are working in the key of G Major. This has been a huge asset to our students as we learn the major scales and beginning piano repertoire that uses these notes. \r\nWe also had two creative assignments where students composed a new melody over the accompaniment they had learned for an earlier song. They used their knowledge of those notes and skill in using flat.io to write a melody and then perform it. How cool! \r\nThank you so much for providing this tremendous resource to our students. Thank you so much for your support to provide this resource for our Rahway performing arts students. Reading notation is such a vital part of music-making, and although we provide opportunities to learn in many different ways. We highly value teaching the literacy of music. At the end of the year, our choirs perform at the state festival. After performing their repertoire on the concert stage, we head to the sightreading room where we have 5 minutes to teach a brand new piece. The catch is . . . I can't just give them the answers, the students have to be independent learners and read the music. \r\n\r\nSightreading factory provides a wonderful game-like experience for our students to practice musical reading, and receive real-time feedback. What I love the most is that is customizable for each student, our seasoned seniors can choose their own difficulty different than our beginning freshman. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, this month we are starting a belt system where our students level up as they progress in sightreading factory. With access to professional-grade equipment and a dedicated space for recording, students feel empowered to express their ideas in ways that go beyond traditional classroom activities. The studio encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and storytelling—skills that are essential in today's communication-driven world.\r\nAcademically, the podcast studio will enhance student engagement. Projects that once relied solely on written reports or presentations are now reimagined as podcast episodes, fostering deeper research and a more authentic understanding of content. Students now take more ownership of their learning as they plan, script, record, and edit their episodes, integrating technology and literacy in meaningful ways. The process also improves speaking and listening skills, which are often underdeveloped in the conventional classroom.\r\nBeyond academics, the studio has helped cultivate confidence and community. Students who might be shy in traditional settings have found their voice behind the mic. They take pride in producing content that can be shared with a broader audience—whether peers, parents, or the local community. The sense of purpose and professionalism introduced by the podcast studio has not only raised standards for student work but has also fostered a culture of innovation and expression across the school.","fullyFundedDate":1747534010493,"projectUrl":"project/podcast-and-tv-studio/9247110/","projectTitle":"Podcast and TV Studio","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Romano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9937927"},{"teacherId":5266354,"projectId":9524024,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping our Rahway performing arts students. Murphy's law is a real thing, every class period something seems to fail, and doing little things to prevent breakdowns and (even better) plan for quick fixes make it easier throughout the year. At the end of last school year, we disasssembled everything. Now came the task to put it back together. Thank you for the power strips. Each piano has its own setup.
