My students need access to a iPad in the classroom for classwork, presentations, and research. An Apple TV will allow for wireless presentations and collaboration.
Our students are continually being asked to use more technology, but our school systems do not have the funds to provide it. My students are being driven toward a paperless school environment, yet they don't have regular access to classroom computers in school or at home.
My students are motivated sophomores and seniors that work hard in the classroom.
They are continually striving to get better grades and always amaze me with their motivation and dedication. They come to me from Title I elementary and middle school environments. They are taught to be technologically savvy, yet when they get to the high school level, they are being forced to share a fixed number of resources while in school, and often don't have access to working technology outside of school.
In the classroom, I am seeing a growing disparity between the few students who can bring in a laptop or tablet and those who cannot afford the the lunches they are served every day. Those who have easier access to technology are being more creative and productive. Yet it is all to often that I am asking many of them to be creative with just low-tech paper and colored pencils.
My Project
I use my own personal iPad in the classroom. It allows me to be creative and mobile with presentations and content. They kids love it and enjoy the time they are allowed to use it. It is natural for them to interact with it, and get work done. Additional iPads in the classroom will allow my students to get needed work done, and be creative in new ways. With the Airplay wireless streaming capability of the AppleTV, and iPad, and my current projector, I want my students to present projects to larger groups without being tied down by wires. I want them to interact with each other wirelessly. I want to project the digital textbook and content to the students when needed. I want them to be able to take assessments and complete assignments without having to wait for a PC to be available in our library. I want them to use technology that is available when they need it.
This project will allow my classroom to move to the paperless environment that my school wants.
It will provide my students with more access to complete the work they are being asked to do using the skills that they are being taught. This is one of the steps toward helping narrow the achievement gap for all my students in my classroom,
