Our high school students are newcomers. They have never seen snow before and were unprepared with how cold it gets in the winter in the US. When the coats arrived, it was just the right time because it was really cold. The temperatures were below freezing for about three weeks.\r\n\r\nAs you know, our students take buses to school so they had to wait in the cold until the buses arrive. Luckily, they had the coats which were cozy and warm. The hats and matching gloves and socks also helped keep them toasty. \r\n\r\nThey really liked the colors of the coats too. They each chose their favorite color. Light Green or Dark Green, for example.\r\n\r\nThese coats are not like work clothes which are maybe dark and grungy. I don't think it's often that they get new clothes. So this was really special for them.\r\n\r\nEveryone wears a variation of puffer coats so our new students don't stand out from the crowd and feel uncomfortable. What's also nice about the coats is that they are so light so that if they don't need them anymore at school, they just fold nicely into their backpacks.\r\n\r\nI think when you see the photos of the thank you notes, you will see how much the coats etc. were appreciated. One card said: Thanks for caring for someone like me. This tugged at my heart strings because of the many negative feelings towards immigrants.\r\n\r\nI didn't think that my project was going to get funded as I left it a little late. Please know that your generous donation brought joy and much needed warmth to our students. \r\n\r\nThanks once again for caring,","fullyFundedDate":1768214709017,"projectUrl":"project/warm-bodies-mean-warm-minds/9976789/","projectTitle":"Warm Bodies Mean Warm Minds Winter 2025/2026","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rose","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3916208_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1511908105759","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amrose"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33748","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1659,"numTeachers":137,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.3,"schoolId":33748,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about John R Lewis High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"John R Lewis High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/fairfax-county-public-schools/lee-high-school/33748"}
