This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our preschool students are three, four, and five years old. They're hard working, active, and excited to learn new things. They like to play, sing songs, and listen to stories. More than half of my students are from low income households. Many of them are from single parent homes. Our school is a Title I public, inner-city school. One hundred percent of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our schools resources are very limited. However, I strive to provide a supportive learning environment that has enrichment materials to foster their growth and love for learning!
My Project
Our carpet is a necessary and essential tool in our classroom. Most of our learning takes place on our carpet. Everyday we spend time sitting together on our carpet to learn new things, have discussions, share personal experiences, play, and listen to stories. The carpet that we currently have is old and dirty. The edges are unraveling and it is not big enough to seat everyone comfortably. To say the least, it has been well used and loved. A new, larger carpet would provide my students with a clean and spacious area to learn as well as promote engagement, focus, and a sense of community.
