This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are energetic, eager and intelligent. They are live in low-income neighborhoods. Many are raised in one-parent homes. With odds against them they still love to learn and explore new things and concepts.
Many of my students came to Kindergarten knowing nothing or very little.
It took some time and putting a lot of elbow grease to get my scholars where I wanted them to be. After introducing to them that learning could be fun and enriching they thrived to learn new concepts consistently.
My Project
Each child learns in a different way. The use of manipulatives enhances the path of learning a new concept. For instance, when learning letters, pictures help to build sound of the letter: A is for apple, ant, ape. The slogan "Tell me and I forget; Teach Me and I remember; Involve me and I learn" define the use of manipulatives.
Students are able to construct their own cognitive sense when manipulatives are used.
Learning comes from doing not just seeing someone demonstrating. When students use manipulatives they are more engaged. Research has shown that using manipulatives can bridge the gap some in learning concepts.
