My Students

My students are primarily minorities. All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. 95% of my students live below the poverty level. My students families are unfamiliar with how to handle or save money. Most of them live from paycheck to pay check. They have chosen to attend our academy because it is small and designed to help students to acquire missed skills and move to grade level mastery.

My students need to understand the world of finance and how to manage their future income successfully.

My students will use the kit: Financial Literacy: Money Sense build their understanding of how understanding math concepts will help them a is connected to the day to day life. The journals will be used as bank books to monitor the flow of their money and white boards in small group discussions. My students are inquisitive and interested in how finances can effect the life choices they make. Hopefully, my students will gain the understanding purchases they make and why it is important save money from every pay check. It is my goal to teach my students the importance of good money management skills.

My Project

I will use these materials to allow my students to build understanding the importance of making sound financial decisions. My class will not only design a budget for a family dinner, then they will shopping and host their parents for a night of food and fun.

The materials will be used to provide my students with a working knowledge of budgets and savings.

It also be used to will help my students understand how to calculate percentages, project savings maintain an accurate account balance and visualize where thier money is being spent.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
