This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Paper can account for as much as 60% of school waste. Why don't we recycle paper at school? Why do we throw everything in the same trash can? Let's recycle at school and start going green to make everyday Earth Day!
My third graders are thriving to learn about the world.
My students come from an area where recycling is not their top priority. Our school is located in a high poverty area with a majority of the families sharing homes and working from paycheck to paycheck trying to provide for their children. The students buy anything they can to eat and most of them have no knowledge of recycling. Thus, I want to implement a recycling program that helps teach students in how to become resourceful citizens by reusing recyclables such as paper.
My Project
Our mission in third grade is to make everyday Earth Day! I envision using these resources to implement a recycling program that reuses paper and helps to eliminate waste. Schools are the number one users of paper, so we want to help turn our school into a green school! My classroom needs a designated recycle bins for paper. By recycling and reusing paper, we can teach our students the importance eliminating paper waste to help save the resources of our Earth. In addition, my students use their book boxes daily to hold their independent books. Currently, these book boxes are paper and need to be replaced every year! I want to teach them by replacing them with reusable book boxes, we can eliminate that paper waste every year! I want to fill these reusable book boxes with books about the 3 R's: Recycling, Reducing, and Reusing. These materials will help my students learn the importance of recycling, going green, and how their actions play a vital role in conserving our Earth!
Your donation will play a vital role in our school's recycling program.
My students will become 21st century caring, knowledgable citizens of the world! The books will allow them to become informative citizens of how important recycling is. The book boxes and recycling bins for paper will allow them to understand the importance of reusing materials in order to eliminate waste. Please help me make these resources available to help promote the importance of making everyday Earth Day!
