Have you ever had the opportunity to spend time in a kindergarten classroom? I am blessed to share my life with five-year-old kindergartners as their teacher. My students live in Pennsylvania and come from hard-working, diversified families with one common goal - to provide the opportunity for their children to receive the very best education possible.
My students are unique, eager to learn, inquisitive, and love to explore using their senses.
Each child has a distinctive personality. Some are very outgoing while others are more reserved. They are eager to learn especially when faced with a challenge. They work well in teams and with partners to overcome challenges presented. They are wonderfully imaginative and are eager to share their favorite memories and stories, which are often humorous. They learn best by playing and exploring while using their senses. They love to learn through play. When asked about their favorite part of the day they often reply with playtime. Playtime gives them the chance to explore and grow from each other’s imaginations.
My Project
These games and manipulatives will be used to build a stronger foundation of emergent math skills, such as number recognition, number sense, and money during whole group and small group instruction.
Children learn best when having fun and playing.
My children will use the materials to “play” store in our classroom’s Dramatic Play center. The cash register and stamps will be used to help transform the class “kitchen” into their business of choice. Could it be a vegetable stand, pumpkin farm, or bakery? The ideas are endless. Who knows maybe this “play” will spark the interest of a child to become a future business owner one day.
