I would love to have a teaching easel located at the reading table in my room. This designated area is where I get the privilege to teach small group reading skills. When children are first learning to read we focus on letters, sounds, and sight words. Many of the manipulatives that I have are magnetic, but I don't have a large magnetic surface to work from. The easel I would love to have also has a dry erase surface which would allow the students to practice many pre-reading skills including writing. They will be able to approach the board in the small group setting. This will provide opportunities to enhance their self image while they get to demonstrate their skills in front of their peers.
