My Students

“Miss, I need a good book.” Music to my ears every time I hear this request! I have very diverse students who want to read books that reflect their lives. We are beginning independent reading in March and I am seeking new titles that will foster a love of reading among my students. This project will enable me to diversify my selection of titles to meet my student's interests as we embark on our independent reading unit this spring. Our school serves many high needs-low income students, and as their English teacher I would like to show them that through books reading can be enjoyable, not just required.

My Project

I will use these books to enhance the choices available for Reader's workshop and independent reading. This unit will foster the love of reading among my students. So often my students tell me "I don't read." What that really means is 'nothing in here interests me'. My students want to read about characters that look and act like them so I am striving to meet their interests with this selection.

"I love this book!" This statement is what I hope to hear once my library becomes more populated.

Since the book list was created with my students, I am certain that the circulation of books will increase.
