Students enjoyed reading & listening to the short, accessible chapters, which were appropriate for all learners. They collaborated, discussed, and reflected together. \r\n\r\nStudents loved that they could tie the message of each chapter to their own lives and used the message from each chapter to set goals. We started the unit with a 15 minute \"build a house\" challenge. Then, we read the chapter & reflected on the house metaphor about how they are each currently \"building\" their future. \r\n\r\nAnother favorite activity was reading the chapter entitled \"Bamboo\". They learned that bamboo takes 5 years for the roots to grow, but once bamboo sprouts it grows over 90 feet in 6 weeks. Students drew, colored, and labeled their own bamboo pictures showing the \"invisible\" growth and hard work that they are putting into their lives; their bamboo shoots showed their aspirations for their futures. The book allowed students to have their conversations!","fullyFundedDate":1755690645140,"projectUrl":"project/do-what-greatness-requires/9443743/","projectTitle":"Do What Greatness Requires","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Libertucci","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp824331_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1519231753784","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/824331"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23051","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2841,"numTeachers":178,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":24,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":76.4,"schoolId":23051,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Schenectady High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Schenectady High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/schenectady-city-school-district/schenectady-high-school/23051"}
