My Students

My "fabulous firsties" are an inspiration! They are amazing, amusing, enthusiastic learners who come to school every day ready to give it their all. I am so proud of all they accomplish in my class each year: socially, emotionally, academically, and even spiritually.

We are bringing a yoga/mindfulness program to our school next year, which has been piloted for the last two years at one of our elementary schools with great success.

I want my students to have a beautiful and functional "chill area" right in our classroom where these skills can be further utilized. I want to create a peaceful oasis where they can use their new-found skills to help them recharge and refocus, with me and also with their classmates at various times during the school day.

My Project

These items will be used to create a beautiful space in my classroom which students can use as a sanctuary to rest, regroup, and practice the yoga/mindfulness skills they will be learning in our new school-wide program so that they can be more focused and in control, as well as peaceful and happy. There will be room to do seated meditation as well as breathing/centering exercises in a comfortable and peaceful environment. These skills will not only help my students to be more successful in school, but they can benefit from them for the rest of their lives. We look forward to duplicating the success that yoga/mindfulness have already brought to another district school in a pilot program for the past two years.
