Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students live in low-income housing and they attend a Title I school. They are beginning first grade and have various disabilities. They are underprivileged scholars who need equitable access to their education, whether at home or in school. My students work hard and they are eager to learn. They need some basics.

During the pandemic, not all of our scholars were able to attend school.

We want to remove any barriers that will stand in the way of our scholars' education.

My Project

In New York, the temperatures have dropped so much, that the children are unable to go outside.

We want our scholars to be engaged, have fun, and stay safe!

These games will allow them to have some fun while staying safe. We have observed that when the scholars are inside without a structured activity, they become board and naturally more behavioral issues arrive. Lunch is only a short amount of time and they need time to eat but I want them all to be engaged.

This project is not just for my class, this is for my entire school. The games and activities would be kept with our head Lunch Coach so that she can monitor, supervise, and distribute all materials.

I chose the Stomp It movement to get them moving and dancing. The Giant Tumbling Timber Toy reminds me of a giant Jenga. I absolutely loved this game as a child. It is good for problem-solving skills.

The ring toss I think would be great to have them work on their hand-eye coordination and build important skills. With the pandemic, not all kids have experienced school, why not make it a great one?

Red Light Green Light reminds me of Mother May I when I was little. Now it is interactive and sensory but fun for all.

Finally, I found some other games that I think would be fun for our scholars in K-5th grade. I want them to have a good experience during lunch while also staying out of trouble.
