My students are from a diverse Chicago neighborhood full of English language learners attending a public school. All of my students qualify for free lunch. A variety of cultures are represented, languages spoken, and ideas shared within my classroom. Through hard work and dedication, my students continue to overcome obstacles, meeting and exceeding grade-level expectations.
My inquisitive middle schoolers are growing up during one of the most unusual and worrisome times in education.
But, no matter the obstacle, my students are passionate about learning. Through relevant novel studies and research, we work together to develop the skills needed to meet the state standards and use this knowledge to affect positive change. I take pride in the responsibility my students feel for their own educations.
My students rely heavily on my classroom library for books to read. Now that we are starting our journey into hybrid learning, I would like to replenish their access to high quality, engaging titles to keep them reading.
Providing students new books to read at home helps them maintain their skills and gives them an escape to other places while they may be feeling bored or trapped.
New books help keep their minds active, improve their reading skills, and provide a fun surprise that can infuse a spark of joy and hope into these tough times.
