My Students

My students LOVE to learn and research. I recently taught them how to use Google and the internet to search for information, but we need to way to print out this information.

My students attend a school for a 98% poverty rating.

The majority of my students live in the housing development across the street from my school. Only two of my students have computers in their homes. My classroom currently has 2 old, but functional, computers. This past year I developed something called "The Smarty Pants Wall of Fame." Whenever someone asks a question that I don't know the answer to - such as when Mount Rushmore was build? or What happens to your brain when you have a headache? - I give them the chance to research the answer online. They have to fill out a short report about their findings and present it to the class, and then they get their picture and information posted on "The Smarty Pants Wall of Fame." My students LOVE this! They love feeling like they "outsmarted the teacher" and they love the opportunity to share their findings with their peers. I love it because they are being rewarded for a positive academic achievement.

My Project

I feel very strongly about continuing this practice in my classroom, but the cost of ink and paper is getting more than this teacher can handle! My proposal is very simple. My students need ink and copy paper. Not only will they be able to print out their Smarty Pants reports, but my students will also be able to print out information for research, writing time, science reports, and anything else that comes up in the classroom.

Please help my students continue to learn and make fantastic growth and discovery in the classroom.

I want my students to continue to be proud of their achievements and able to share them with their peers.
