My Students

Our school is full of energetic, rambunctious kids who are ready to learn! Unfortunately, many of them come from homes that live under the poverty line. This affects their home life, their school life, and their exposure to things that are different from their "norm." As their teacher, I want to give them everything they need to be successful not only in school, but socially, emotionally, and in their futures. Giving my kids activities that engage them and make them want to learn is such a great way to keep their attention.

My kindergartners learn best when they are working hands-on, and this means providing them with a variety of materials to do so.

Over the past year, I was faced with the harsh reality that the way we teach reading isn't the way that's best suited for students' brains to learn. Since then I have gone through various trainings and done ample research on the science of reading and how to best teach my students to read.

My Project

About a year ago I started diving into the science of reading and realizing that the way teachers teach reading is not the way that students' brains learn to read. As a psychology major, I found this fascinating and I consumed all of the research I could find on the idea. Learning that you have been doing something wrong is never an easy thing to learn, but as the saying goes, "know better, do better."

This TPT gift card will allow me to purchase materials that align with the Science of Reading (SOR) that I can use in small groups and for centers.

This will ultimately provide my students with resources that are best fitted to their needs.
