Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are love, friendly, shy, loud, happy and a few are sad but they are all valuable. My students are readers, story tellers, and best of all huggers. Some of our students have had to deal with more at their young age than most adults.

Many of our students are transient which means that they are only in our care for a short period of time before moving on to the next location or school.

They may not have material things that many have, but they are opened to learning with less. My students do their best every day and they work hard to learn and grow. They are resilient beings who have positive attitudes and we can learn from them. The school has a majority of black and brown students who hail from various countries around the world and are learning how to appreciate themselves as well as others.

My Project

I am requesting books where my students can see themselves on the cover and in the characters and stories. This project is the start of a library where students will be able to identify with the characters on the covers and know that they too can be whatever they put their minds too.

The affirming messages in these stories will build a sense of pride in my students even though some of them may be experiencing difficulties.

I hope to create a safe place where these students feel wanted and accepted if they are with me for a day or a year.

I will be using these books to motivate and engage my students. I want them to dream big and know that these dreams can come true. I want to be the voice of encouragement using these authors and their stories. I want my students to internalize that they are worthy no matter the shade of skin that they come in.
