I am requesting books where my students can see themselves on the cover and in the characters and stories. This project is the start of a library where students will be able to identify with the characters on the covers and know that they too can be whatever they put their minds too. The affirming messages in these stories will build a sense of pride in my students even though some of them may be experiencing difficulties. I hope to create a safe place where these students feel wanted and accepted if they are with me for a day or a year. I will be using these books to motivate and engage my students. I want them to dream big and know that these dreams can come true. I want to be the voice of encouragement using these authors and their stories. I want my students to internalize that they are worthy no matter the shade of skin that they come in.
