Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
BINCA welcomes recent immigrants and English Language Learners new to Boston. In the halls of BINCA you'll hear Haitian Creole, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Chinese and Portuguese, and more . . .
Our students are success stories.
Although faced with a myriad of challenges in their lives, such as trauma, homelessness, having to work to pay rent, adjusting to a new language and culture, and other responsibilities that are emotionally demanding, they find a way to persist. BINCA has sent many students to a wide range of colleges and other exciting post-secondary opportunities like Americorps. We are proud of the sense of community we've created within the walls of our school, and the academic and social lessons our students take with them when they graduate.
My Project
Boston International's LGBTQ+ Club is the "Rainbow Unicorns," named by our students. We are a small but mighty group of gender-nonconforming, lesbian and gay students and staff who meet weekly to support one another and bring awareness to our larger school. The Rainbow Unicorns have run professional development sessions in the past and hope to stage a Day of Pride in December, as part of Spirit Week.
Help us produce buttons, wave our flags, and promote LGBTQ awareness on this Day of Pride!
We plan to produce personalized buttons for allies during lunch. We want to educate our students and staff about the different flags representing the queer community. We will pass out stickers and Rainbow Unicorn materials to promote a a safer, more accepting school for all!
