This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

According to feedingamerica.org, research shows hunger impacts a student's school performance. What if that same child has a hunger for learning and a hunger for doing their best everyday? We are a Title One school and many of my students show up hungry. This year, I have students who look forward to school where they will get to eat. They also look forward to school where they know they will learn and participate in activities that enhance their learning. I need snacks for these students. Our students have a tutorial class at the end of the day to help the close the gaps. During this time, the students may be tired, but the one thing that keeps some from focusing is they need snacks. They are hungry by the end of the day and with snacks, they can focus on the task at hand. What else keeps my students from doing work? They need to replenish supplies. By December, most parents know students need to replace school supplies. My parents are hard working parents, but school supplies is not what they can buy. I need to have basic supplies so my students do not go without. The final material that my students need are more books. I have noticed the amount of reading in my classroom has sky rocketed with the introduction of graphic novels. Many of my students with learning disabilities are now actively seeking out graphic novels and reading. On top of using graphic novels, I have seen that books that are series keep those students reading. They want to continue reading after they read the first book. This makes my teacher heart extremely happy! Please help us reboot, replenish, and restock!
