These items will be used in class as students are exposed to various genres of text. The dry erase markers are used as students pair up and answer on dry boards. All groups respond as they practice thinking skills as well as writing skills. All groups present their responses and defend answers using text evidence from the book we are reading at that time. With each novel, we have hands-on activities to make learning fun. I also have many students with learning disabilities or language obstacles and hands-on activities help them as well as all students better understand the book we are reading. Markers help them create and decorate art projects based on the book. For example, instead of writing a summary of one chapter, in our last book, we took one chapter that was important to the plot and students created a comic strip of that chapter. Students loved this and it helped them truly understand how that specific chapter impacted the plot.
